A project board of 16 nominees (9 NHS Board members, 4 patients and 2 councillors) is currently deciding options for the future of the NHS in Coventry and Warwickshire. Warwick Hospitals future is threatened. Key issues are stroke and older peoples care; children and maternity and A&E.
Cllr Roger Copping
Lib-Dem Councillor Roger Copping said, "Local people have fought for our hospital for many years and we raised £1m for the new Accident and Emergency Unit in 2001. The options must be agreed by next April. Before then local public meetings will be held where you can have your say about forthcoming cuts in local NHS provision."
Meanwhile the local Primary Care Trust has made a huge 60% cut in its grant to Age Concern for its Care of elderly and frail older people recently discharged from hospital. This sudden cut is likely to increase delays at Warwick Hospital. Roger Copping has asked for this to be considered by the County Council.
