Changes to the way in which parking is to be managed are being considered by the District & County Council. Parking in Warwick will in future be controlled by the Council rather than the Police. The scheme will include; on street parking meters in the centre of Warwick, residents parking schemes in areas close to the town and more council parking wardens to enforce the new measures.
Short term parking in the centre will be available with longer term parking further out. Warwick Liberal Democrats are in favour of these changes as we believe parking is under policed and it will favour those wishing to visit the town for shorter periods which will improve trade in the town. We do feel that the scheme could create problems outside the metered and residents zones and we would like to see the following improvements to the scheme.
Many roads in Warwick face obstructive parking on a daily basis by people visiting the town, creating blind spots and blocking access to some streets. We say this situation needs to be addressed now before decriminalisation.
Residents in these streets already find it difficult to park in their streets during the day due to people visiting the town or the hospital and would like residents parking extended to their roads.
We have written to the County Council to express these concerns. If you wish to support our improvements to this scheme or wish to comment please let us know.
