On August 11th, Warwick and Leamington Lib Dem members had the pleasure of entertaining the Shadow Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Ed Davey.
Nick Pittarello reports: The event kicked off with a visit to National Grid where Ed visited the Gas National Control Centre on Warwick Business Park and met Directors to review energy policy following the recent publication of the Government's pro-nuclear Energy Review.
Chris Begg showing Ed Davey round Hill Close Gardens
The next stop was the soon-to-be-opened and beautifully tended Hill Close Gardens which are the only remaining Victorian terraced gardens in the country. There we were met by the press and local party Treasurer, Chris Begg. Ed and Chris made an appearance in the Warwick Times with a "blooming" excellent photo of them admiring roses (unfortunately they were red roses!).
Blitz Games in Leamington followed, and the company which is part of one of the fastest growing industries in Leamington discussed regulatory and practical business concerns with Ed. We were also treated to observing how graphics designers make humans look so expressive by mimicking facial muscles.
Later, other members gathered for an excellent dinner at the Rose and Crown where Ed gave a speech and we enjoyed fascinating political insights and debate with a very talented politician.
As he left, Ed said "I know Warwick and Leamington is in safe hands".
