Yesterday the results of the selection contest for the candidates for the 2009 European Elections we announced. Phil Bennion a farmer from staffordshire was selected at the number 2 position. West Midlands MEP Liz Lynne was reselected at number 1 on the list.
Warwick & Leamington Parliamentary Spokesperson, Alan Beddow, who acted as Phil's campaign manager during the contest said, "I am especially pleased that Phil made the number 2 position. He stands a really good chance of representing the West Midlands in the European Parliament after the 2009 election. I have worked with Phil over the past 12 months and accompanied him on a visit earlier this year to the European Parliament for briefings with some of our current MEP's. Phil plays a leading role in our European Party and is well respected in Brussels and in the West Midlands".
Talking to Alan after news of the selection came in, Phil Bennion outlined his vision for Europe. "Europe must step up to the issues that affect us in the 21st Century. I will stand up for the West Midlands within the European Union, make the case for Europe campaigning in our region and fight for the reform that is needed if Europe is to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
