More Housing in Warwick District?
There is very strong Government pressure on Warwick District Council to find land for 10,800 new homes between 2006 and 2026. Land has already been earmarked for 2,650 homes (from those built since 2006 and on sites that already have planning permission). That means that
about 270 hectares (670 acres) of land is still needed for 8,150 new homes. The planners feel that many can be built on brown field sites. That would still leave around 2,700 homes that would need to be built on green field and / or green belt sites. To put it into perspective, they need an area the same size as Warwick Gates and Chase Meadow combined.
What are the options?
The District Council has produced a Core Strategy Options paper which lists 5 options on where those 2,700 homes could go.
Public consultation will be running from 15th May to 10th July and will be supported by exhibitions across the district and leaflets which are being sent out to local libraries and other council offices.
