Councillors Bill Gifford, David Greenwood, Chris Davis and Parliamentary Candidate Alan Beddow as they prepare to join allotment holders on their Welly Walk.
Local Lib-Dem Councillors joined allotment holders on a welly walk as part of their campaign to protect Leamington's allotments and the green belt to the north of Leamington from development on Sunday afternoon.
In spite of muddy conditions and icy rain, over a hundred campaigners walked across the green belt and allotments under threat, to pressure Warwick District Council not to earmark allotment land and green belt to the north of the town for thousands of new homes.
Town Council Leader Cllr Bill Gifford said, "Leamington's allotments are enjoyed by people right across the town. They provide a source of recreation and good healthy home grown food. New development in the area should not be at the expense of the green open spaces that are enjoyed by everyone. We need to maintain the greenbelt to the north of the town that provides a natural division between our towns and halts the spread of urban sprawl."
Leamington Town Council recently passed a motion supporting Allotment Holders need for more plots to provide for growing waiting lists.
Local Parliamentary Candidate Alan Beddow, speaking at the walk praised campaigners, "Allotment holders campaign like they garden, planting the seed, nurturing it and helping it grow. Often like today in all weathers and muddy conditions."
